Body & Soul

If you are in or around San Francisco we are having our record release party for the 12" re-issue of Carmen's Time To Move at Sweaterfunk this Sunday. Held at China Town's Li Po lounge.

For everyone else, here is one of my favorite afro boogie tracks of all time, it has been bootlegged twice in the past 10 years or so, the original from time to time making it's way out of Nigeria into the hands of European record dealers..

I have to leave the apartment, I'll finish the rest of this post later.. its epic, trust me..

Does "Afro Boogie" mean that this music was made in Africa ? Probably not. Anyway, this will not replace "Dont go lose it baby" from my list of top hits from this kind of music. But whatever happened to Rex Rabanje?

"Afro Boogie" generally means that the record was recorded and pressed in Africa. Although some of the Jake Sollo productions and others were actually recorded in England and then pressed up in Nigeria. William Onyeabor reoorded and pressed(!) all his records himself in his home town Enugu in South East Nigeria. Check out the incredible Brand New Wayo comp by Comb & Razor for more insight into this genre.
